Passive fire protection at Camden Town Hall
A £250,000+ passive fire protection programme delivered over five months during the refurbishment of Camden Town Hall, comprising fire stopping to approximately 510 service penetrations, FIREFLY fire barriers and the installation of 38 mechanical fire dampers.
Project requirement
The challenge.
MG Construction, the principal contractor and fit-out specialist, appointed FireX to deliver the project’s passive fire protection elements during the refurbishment of Camden Town Hall. FireX’s works extended from the basement through to the third floor, covering office accommodation, civic facilities and public event spaces. The project was operating to a strict construction programme, so each phase needed to be completed and recorded in coordination with MG Construction and the wider project team, allowing areas to progress to follow-on trades without avoidable delay.

How the work was managed.
FireX delivered the works through a five-month phased programme commencing in February 2026. Activities were coordinated with the refurbishment sequence and the availability of individual work areas. Approximately 510 service penetrations were treated using FSi fire-stopping products within suitable tested systems. The wider scope included linear gap and joint sealing, intumescent pipe collars and wraps, FIREFLY fire barrier systems and the installation of 38 mechanical fire dampers. Installations were completed in accordance with the project fire strategy, relevant tested system evidence, manufacturer requirements and the applicable limits of FireX’s certification.
